Guided Reading Grounded in the Science of Reading
Welcome, families!
In our classroom, we use the Literacy Footprints program to help your child become a successful, confident reader. This program aligns with the Science of Reading, using brain-based research to build foundational reading skills in a structured, supportive way.
The Science of Reading is a body of research that explains how children learn to read. It emphasizes five key components of reading instruction:
Phonemic Awareness β Hearing and working with sounds in spoken words
Phonics β Understanding the relationship between sounds and letters
Fluency β Reading with accuracy, speed, and expression
Vocabulary β Knowing the meaning of words
Comprehension β Understanding and thinking about what is read
Literacy Footprints directly supports all five areas.
